I gave up with PiOS5's/Debian 12's packaged Wayfire as it has bugs that are fixed in more recent versions.I have had this same issue. Mostly when working in Thonny, but I do have Chromium open in the background. I am on a RPI 5 with 8GB. I would say it has happened about half a dozen times. Once even without Chromium open.
