That is what it all ultimately comes down to.It is at times like these I wish i was able to move to countries where the laws are clear and defined.
Warranty is usually a matter of contract between buyer and seller and legislation will define what rights buyers have, what obligations sellers have.
You don't have a contract with Raspberry Pi so they are not obliged to help you out. But you do have a contract with the seller who you dealt with, and they will have a contract with Raspberry Pi or whoever sold it to them.
If a nation's government doesn't provide appropriate rights and mandate appropriate obligations there is usually little those outside its jurisdiction can do to change things.
