Advanced users • Possibility of Pi 3a+ with 1GB RAM

I'm working on a camera based project where I'm running into issues due to project limitations.

I exploring the possible Ras Pi options against the project's size limitations, and found the following:
- I cannot use the CM3, as I cannot find a small enough ready-made carrier board for it (my forte is on the software side of things, not the HW, so I cannot make one).
- The CM4 has small sized options (like the Waveshare Nano carrier boards), but it's beyond the average energy budget of the project.
- The Pi 3B/3B+ are perfect on the energy front but too large on the size metric.
- The 3A+/Zero 2W are perfect on energy and size, but I'm running into issues with OOM, even with a bit of swap(and slowness too) due to the restriction of RAM to 512M

I understand that a 1GB variant of the Zero2W is an undertaking that will require a redesign of the chip packaging for 1G RAM, which isn't happening soon.

What's the probability that the Raspberry Pi Foundation releases a 1GB variant of the 3A+, and how might that be increased?

I've seen a google result of someone DIYing this, by changing the 3A+'s RAM chip with one scavenged from a 3B+, but that's beyond my ken, not just my skills.

The only remotely realistic option I have the skills for is to trim down a 3B+ (I have a Dremel, and basic grinding skills with it) into a 3A-minus-minus, my lack of circuit recognition skills contributing to the remoteness of this.

Or something not a Pi, but that's a different brand of worm!!
