Lot's of good replies guys, and I thank you all. Much appreciated x
I was more angry at the 'timing' of the problem, aka, it was for someone's Xmas present. That has all gone out the window now regardless. I have contacted supplier with the problem, including pics, but due to this time of year, I get the 'we are closed until after holiday's' message.
I have ordered another from my usual supplier, Pimoroni, as they had them in stock now, but still wont get till after this period, fair enough. I'm also not out to grab a 'freebie', as I really don't care now. I've requested a return, with them paying for it, and a full refund, so we will see what happens with that in the coming days?
Could I just bend the pins back and use it?, of course, and it would be quite easy to do so, as I have done the same on CPU pins before, as I work with a lot of electronics. Principle is the factor here, as why should I?, and if the item was just for myself, then I probably would have done so, but it isn't.
Sending delicate electronics out in un-protected packaging is not good, more so, when the actual contents have very little to protect them in the first place, and for that, I blame both the supplier, and those who design the packaging the Pi comes in. Yes we all do know, how careless the mail/courier system can be, so why not take steps to prevent such things happening in the first place?, for the sake of the customer, although, I'm not convinced this was postal damage.
I don't buy into the 'green' antistatic cardboard nonsense, as it is just that, nonsense, lol. Sensitive electronics should be protected, even when laying in a drawer, and preferably not in a flimsy cardboard box, and certainly not shipping that way.
To those who say, I shouldn't have opened it?, well, how would I have known otherwise? Items no longer have to be signed for here, even when they are supposed to be, and just left on one's doorstep, with a picture taken. This package would have easily fitted through my letterbox, but no, it was left, like all other deliveries, on the doorstep Something that has happened since Covid days?, and something that bugs the hell out of me.
Anyway, rant over lol. Thank you for all your help, and have a very Merry Xmas!! I'll be sure to update if/when I get refund for original.
Cheers guys!!! Have a good one x
