You want to turn the antenna, and not the mount. So why don't you setup your mount with a 'dead accurate' position. Use a reference switch (or two) to calibrate your zero and a stepper motor with a belt drive gear for rotating the antenna?
Knowing the angle per motor step gives you accurate positional readings. Make a reference (let it rotate until it actuates the ref switch) move if somethings goes wrong.
Sure, you can add a magnetometer in addition if you think it's needed.
